Cultivating Students' Spiritual and Physical World at Westchester Day School

In this monthly feature, we showcase one of our Anafim Partners - this month features Westchester Day School.

With our partnership initiated by Rabbi Joshua Lookstein, WDS joined the GrowTorah Anafim program in 2021. Rabbi Nuriel Klinger of Young Israel of Scarsdale, WDS’s Rabbi-In-Residence, in conjunction with Science teacher, Ms. Rebecca Shapiro, operate and educate in their GrowTorah Garden. In the garden, students learn regularly about the parsha, environmental stewardship, and appreciation for the beauty in nature.

GrowTorah shares a unique relationship with Westchester Day School, having just this year run both a pickling event and station at the open house. In addition, GrowTorah’s own Co-Executive Director, Sara Just-Michael is a WDS alumna!

We are eager to see what the WDS garden will achieve this spring!

In addition to our Shorashim, GrowTorah thrives off of our relationship with our Anafim partners! As one of our Anafim partners, we advise and train school staff to run successful educational garden programs at their school. Among them is Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox co-ed Jewish Day School located in Mamaroneck, NY.

The Anafim initiative was launched with help from a Covenant Foundation Ignition Grant.
