Borage - זִיפָּן
Agricultural Information:
Plant Family: Boraginaceae
Scientific name: Borago officinalis
Borage is an annual herb, typically producing blue flowers, and is native to the Mediterranean region. Few plants are considered as beneficial to their companions as borage attracting pollinators such as bees, repelling pests like hornworms and cabbage worms, and enriches the soil by adding trace minerals.
Culinarily, borage can be enjoyed either as a fresh vegetable or a dried herb. The leaves, with their light cucumber like flavor, are often used in salads or as a garnish. The flowers, sweet and honey like in taste, are commonly used to decorate desserts.
