CAMP GROWTORAH STAFF: Job Description

FULL TIME: 1–2 WEEKS

Dates: August 17-21 & August 24-28, 2026
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm
Counselors in Training: 14-15 years old (rising 8th & 9th graders)
Junior Counselors: 16-17 years old
Senior Counselors: 18-25 years old

Compensation:

  • CIT: $100 Stipend

  • First year: $16/hr

  • Second year: $17/hr

  • Third year+: $18/hr

Summary: Camp GrowTorah staff guide students through daily activities including, tefillah ba’sadeh, farm chores, nature arts and crafts, field games and more. 

Ideal Staff:

  • is a passionate Jewish educator with summer camp or classroom experience is strongly preferred. Gardening experience is preferred. 

  • practices love and commitment to Torah and Mitzvot, specifically, environmental Torah values. 

  • is comfortable teaching Torah in a Modern Orthodox camp.

  • is comfortable teaching Hebrew texts. 

  • is local to the NYC metro region

  • is capable of performing medium level manual labor

  • is a fast-learner, with a desire and ability to laugh often and share joy with others. 

  • embraces GrowTorah’s growth mindset for professional development. 



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep campers safe, healthy and happy

  • Promote the GrowTorah Core Values: 

    • 1. Incubating Emunah 

    • 2. Stewarding the Environment 

    • 3. Compassion for Creatures 

    • 4. Living Tzedakah

  • Guide campers through the garden and farm work (with support from specialists)

  • Maintain effective communication with Camp GrowTorah team

  • Participate in Camp GrowTorah staff training before camp. 

  • Work with the evaluation team to execute program evaluation.

  • Support campers in their personal growth and development

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Organized, upbeat and flexible individuals strongly preferred. 

  • Willingness to smell, taste and feel plants to enhance lessons. 

  • May be required to work around loud noise. 

  • Ability to:

    • work with frequent interruption and to simultaneously supervise a variety of tasks.

    • stand, stoop, reach and bend. Mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects. 

    • read small print. 

    • stand for long periods. 

    • walk long distances. 

    • lift, push, and/or pull objects which may be approximately 50 pounds. 

    • work outdoors and tolerate varying weather conditions.

We are proud to bring you the 7th year of Camp GrowTorah!

Campers will explore, play, create, and learn on the property’s many acres of land, including cultivated fields and farm animals.

We’ll bask in nature’s glory as we connect with the Torah in meaningful, personal, and joyous ways, exploring lessons from the weekly parsha through farm chores, artistic expression, and nature crafts. Specifically, we will immerse ourselves in the Torah values of environmental stewardship, compassion for creatures, charity, and more.


Daily Staff Schedule (subject to adjustments)

8:30 – 9:00 Staff set up camp

9:00 – 9:15 Campers Arrival on the Farm

9:15 – 9:30 Shacharit in the fields

9:30 – 10:15 Farm Chores and Gardening Activities

10:15 – 10:45 Snack and Animal Care

10:30 – 11:15 Nature Arts & Crafts

11:15 – 11:45 Foraging Walk

11:45 – 12:45 Raw Cooking, Lunch and Bracha party

12:45 – 1:30 Field Games

1:30 – 2:30 Special Activities/Workshop

2:30 – 3:00 Snack and Closing Circle

3:00 – 3:15 Dismissal & Clean up

3:15 – 3:30 Daily Staff Meeting
