Uplifting Environmental News this Month:

  • Global renewable energy reached a major structural milestone as wind and solar combined to generate 22% of global electricity, officially overtaking natural gas for the first time in history following a massive 13% year-on-year surge in clean energy output.

  • Community teamwork has successfully saved Tanzania's critically endangered turquoise dwarf gecko. Locals are being paid to protect the forest by planting 5,000 native trees a year and cutting down invasive plants, which has allowed the bright blue gecko's numbers to fully bounce back to where they were before illegal pet poaching began.

  • A new project is turning old, abandoned spaces into clean power plants by building solar farms on top of closed landfills. Instead of letting hundreds of acres of trash sites sit completely empty, cities are leasing this land to install solar panels, creating cheap electricity and steady income for local communities.

  • South Africa's Great African Seaforest has become a rare global bright spot as one of the planet's only expanding kelp ecosystems, prompting marine scientists to launch an inventory of over 1,000 species to secure formal protections for its biodiversity and immense carbon-storing potential.
