Snapdragon - לוֹעַ הָאֲרִי

Agricultural Information:

Plant Family: Plantaginaceae
Scientific name: Antirrhinum majus

Snapdragons are tall, colorful flowering plants native to the Mediterranean region. They flower well in cool weather and can tolerate light frost, making them ideal for early spring and fall planting. Their name comes from the way that their blooms open and close like a “dragon’s mouth” when gently squeezed.

While snapdragons are edible, they are typically grown for their wide variety of colored blooms and used in bouquets as the plants produce upright spikes of flowers.

Information about plants as they relate to torah and mitzvot has been generously provided by Mercaz Torah VeHa’aretz Institute.
